South Pasadena baseball lost to La Cañada on Wednesday, May 4, by a score of 5-3. The Tigers are now in danger of facing a winless Rio Hondo League season as their record has fallen to 0-11.

La Cañada took the lead early with a ground ball to right in the first. In the third, the Tigers fought back with a single to right from junior Cole Page. Sophomore Isaac Luevano continued the rally with a line drive passed the Spartan outfielder. Then, South Pas tied the game at 1-1 with a ground ball to the pitcher from senior Matt Shults to score Page.

La Cañada continued their offensive pressure in the fourth with a long double to the wall, scoring another run for the Spartans. South Pas came back in similar fashion, answering with a double from senior Connor Dolan to, again, tie the game at 2-2.

Dolan struck again in the sixth inning with yet another double. Junior Ben Quirk followed up with an RBI single to score Dolan, giving the Tigers the lead for the first time. The feeling was short lived, however, after a three run seventh inning from La Cañada. The Tigers failed to retaliate in the last inning of the game, leaving the game at 5-3 in favor of the Spartans.

South Pas will have one more chance at a win on Thursday, May 5, when they play their final league game at La Cañada.
