The South Pasadena High School badminton team started off its second season with a 16-5 victory over the Mayfield Cubs on Thursday, March 10. The Tigers swept the Cubs last season, and were able continue that run of success with a strong win on Thursday.

“Winning our first match is a good sign for our season,” junior Michael Wu said. “I hope that we can keep it going in later games.”

Two of the team’s strongest performers were junior Sophia Gerodíaz and sophomore Susan Yang, who had worked hard in practice and were able to win their doubles match.

The team’s next match will take place on Tuesday, March 15, away against Alhambra High School, whom the Tigers failed to beat last season. They hope to utilize the momentum gained from this first victory into the match.
