SPHS’s ASB held the annual homecoming assembly on Friday, Oct. 25 in honor of the homecoming football game and dance.
As students filed in, Marching Band played “Eye of the Tiger.” Commissioner of Assemblies Zachary Lee started the assembly with a class roll call. The mic was then passed to junior Cinbie Chang, who sang the national anthem.
Lee then led the class competition, where nominees in each grade competed against each other by stacking and unstacking cups as quickly as possible. Following the game was Dance’s performance to Eminem, Big Sean, and BabyTron’s song “Tobey.”
Next was a video of the underclassmen Hoco “Royal Tigers.” Put together by videographer Madeline Madrigal, the video showcased an interrogation setup. Each of the nominees was hooked up to a faux “lie detector” and asked questions about themselves. These questions included whether or not the Royal Tigers believed in Santa and which movie they would choose to describe their mental state.
JV Song and Yell performed their routines. Afterward, the football captains were called up for a one-minute announcement advertising the homecoming game.
Following the announcement was a second video featuring the same interrogation style, this time featuring the three senior “Most Royal Tiger” nominees. After the video, Sienna Drake, Commissioner of School and Community, read biographies for each Royal Tiger as they were escorted to the stage by friends or family, parting with a special handshake.
After the Royal Tigers were called up to the stage, the assembly ended with JV and Varsity Flag performances. Students left as Band played the alma mater.
