On Sept. 25, the girls’ Golf played their second Rio Hondo match at the par 34 La Cañada Country Club. They played against Temple City, San Marino, La Cañada, and Gabrielino.

Temple City placed first with a score of 192, San Marino placed second, scoring 197, and La Cañada placed third, scoring 213, while South Pasadena placed fourth with a score of 227, and Gabrielino fifth, with a score of 292.

Freshmen Bella Vanichsombat, with the lowest score of 39 and Delaney Wong, with a score of 41, led the team, with junior Gaby Ho and sophomore Riley Zee close behind.

Although the girls played well, they reported having a difficult time on the course.

“It’s a tough course because the fairways were really narrow and it had a lot of sharp edges,” said sophomore Abigail Cruz.

So far, the Tigers have had a strong season, placing third at their last Rio Hondo Match at Eaton Canyon Golf Course, hosted by Temple City.

“Our girl golfers played against some great teams on a tough narrow course this week… I’m looking for the team to bounce back this week at Alhambra GC and get a top 3 finish,” said Head Coach Robert Biggar.

The girls will have another chance to play against South Pasadena’s league competitors at the next Rio Hondo Match on Oct. 2, at the par 36 Alhambra golf course, hosted by Gabrielino.
