Track and field excels against Alhambra

The track team reigned above Alhambra in a dual meet on Thursday, Feb. 27. South Pas earned first place in 26 of the 29 events.

Juniors Ferrel Mansano and Terrel Mansano swept first and second, respectively, in both the 100m and 200m. Junior Ella Leeson also won the 100m and 200m with times of 13.08 and 26.74.

Seniors Sam Clark and Ian Wang both achieved personal records in the 800m, coming in the top two spots, while senior Gianna Beaseley effortlessly earned the Tigers yet another first place finish in the same event in 2:24.48.

Clark also prevailed in the 1600m with a personal record of 4:25.25. Sophomore Sydney Morrow ran a 5:22.65 to earn first for girls and claimed the top place in the 3200m. Senior Avery Kim dominated the hurdles, placing first in both the 100 and 300 meters.

South Pas continued its winning streak as both 4x100m relay teams came in first. Estrada, the Mansanos, and senior Kevin Kang came in at 43.81 as Harris, Leeson, Kim, and sophomore Stephanie Li notched a time of 50.81.

South Pas swept first for every field event. Senior Lim Bui and junior Dominic Ramos won in shot put and pole vault, respectively. Senior Sophie Garcia reached 5’0” in the high jump Kang earned first for the boys at 5’6”. In the long jump, Leeson won at 16’0” and Kang at 21′ 2”.

“This is one of our low pressure meets so everyone got the chance to try out new races and new racing strategies,” junior Lindsay Michels said.

The team will compete in the Mustang Round-up at Trabuco Hills High School on Saturday, Feb. 29.
