Schools surrounding South Pasadena boast their own creative writing publications, or literary magazines, from San Marino’s Titan Musings and La Cañada’s Ink and Iris to Harvard-Westlake’s Stone-cutters.
Founded in 2023, the student-led Voice Box Lit. is on a mission to uplift student creative voices at SPHS and break through the container of school through literary and visual arts. It aims to encourage creative writing by publishing students’ work in the inaugural issue, Vol. 1: Spring 2024.
Voice Box Lit. accepts dramatic writing, prose, poetry, memoir/personal narrative, and forms of visual arts. The inaugural volume has no theme. The call for submissions opens Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, and closes on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2024.
