The varsity girls water polo game began on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 4:00 p.m. against the San Marino Titans. Although the Titans held victory at the end of the match, winning 10-4, the Tigers showed true determination and the outcome of working together as a team.

The first quarter began with the ball going to the Titans, whose team attempted to send the ball into the goal but threw it off the post. Junior Hayun Lee showed the true meaning of teamwork by connecting the ball to senior Cora Bild, who then scored on the Titans, making the score 1-0.

Titans, hungry for the win, put in all that they could. The Titans passed to one another, but unexpectedly missed due to an interception by senior Amaya Mahler. Mahler connected to Lee, who scored again from almost halfway across the pool, making the score 4-0 Tigers.

At this point, the Titans were desperate to enter the game, and became more aggressive with each passing minute. The Titans swam down the pool and threw the ball in, giving them a chance to come back.

Mahler attempted to recreate the same shot earlier in the game, but against more aggressive Titans, the shot was quickly intercepted. While junior Justine Jiang showed true determination throughout the game by constantly blocking the Titan’s onslaught, it was clear the Titans were gaining the offensive advantage.

Over time, the Tigers lost their touch while the Titans became more fierce than ever, leading to the Titans scoring constantly throughout the second half of the game. The final quarter and score ended with the score being 10-4, San Marino taking the win.

The Tigers next game was against Redondo Union on Thursday, February 5, at 5:00 p.m.
