Girls’ water polo kicked off their preseason with a 13-9 win to El Rancho High Monday afternoon at the Tiger pool.

The team burst ahead right off the bat, as senior Kaitlyn Mason rocketed in two in the first quarter. By the end of the period, the Tigers were leading 5-2. In the second quarter, freshman Hayden Carlson notched another goal. Senior goalkeeper Clarque De Young maintained the Tigers’ lead throughout the half with five saves, ending the period ahead 6-3. In the second half, sophomore Skyler Ramirez replaced De Young, and the Tigers shot in three more goals to end the quarter.

The Tigers finished strong in the final period, Carlson firing in her fifth goal of the game and juniors Savannah Pierce and Bianca Vera each scoring one. Although the team dominated offensively throughout the match, they are hoping to turn focus to defense in preparation for league play.

“We fell short on defense today,” sophomore Brittany Jarjour said. “That’s something we’re going to work on in practice tomorrow and take to our next game”

The squad is hoping for another win as they head to Poly on Wednesday for their second game of the season.

“Our communication was really strong today,” Ramirez said. “If we keep that up, we will definitely continue to have success in games.”
