The girls’ varsity tennis team wrapped up its preseason with a dominant 14-4 victory against the Spartans at Schurr High School on Tuesday, September 22. The Tigers were able to end preseason on a high note with this victory as they will transition into the Rio Hondo League season with great momentum.

The team started on a shaky note, but finished in a dominant fashion. Sophomore team captain Molly Round swept her opponents by scores of 6-3, 6-0, and 6-0, but was not totally satisfied with her performance.

“My game was off at the beginning, so I had to adjust my mindset to finish strong” Round said.

Many other athletes were also able to prosper against the opposition. Freshman Shannon Huang won all of her games, constantly executing with well placed strokes to out duel her opponents. A doubles team of sophomore Emma Childers and junior Phoebe Moffett came up with a surprising three game sweep as this was the first time the two played together. The best display of their skill came when they were able to break a tie and come out on top by a score of 7-6.

This team will carry the confidence of today’s strong performance to their Rio Hondo League opener against La Cañada at home on Thursday, September 24.
