The varsity girls’ golf team’s 8-year undefeated streak in league play unfortunately came to an end on Thursday, September 24. As South Pas suffered a tough 217-221 loss to its rival Gabrielino high school. With this defeat, the Tiger’s record now stands at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in league.
“We all put in our effort but they outplayed us this time. Despite the loss, we kept our heads up and that’s very important. We will be ready next time,” junior Emily Swanson said.
Despite pressuring circumstances during the matchup, the Tigers competed until the very end. Junior co-captain Caitlyn Yamashita finished with the team’s high with a score of 38. Swanson and senior co-captain Christine Abbott left the course with strokes of 44 and 45, respectively. Both sophomore Nicole Srisutham and junior Sara Hasegawa scored 47 a piece.
“I know that Gabrelino has always been our toughest competitor. I don’t know if there was a “trigger” for this loss, but hey, all winning streaks come to an end eventually,” sophomore Bethany Chen said. “I think the only thing to do now is move on and see this as another reason to keep working hard.”
The girls look to bounce back with a win against Webb high school on Tuesday, September 29.
