The South Pasadena Unified School District’s plan to remodel the high school football stadium’s home bleachers, originally approved in May, is currently underway. The old wooden planks are being replaced with new metal benches from Aluminum Seating Inc. Construction began on June 27, and will continue for approximately six weeks.

“The new aluminum bench seating is visually more appealing, requires no maintenance, and will provide an upgraded, uniform look to the football stadium and a safe sitting area with no splinters,” SPUSD director of Facilities and Maintenance Tim Mawhinney said.

The funds for the renovations are coming from the district, SPHS Tiger Booster Club and the South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF). SPEF donated $30,000, collected from Parti Gras and from its Major Grants program, while the Booster Club contributed an additional $15,000.

The project is expected to conclude on August 12th, six days before the school year starts.
