Cross country wins sweeping victory at first league meet

The first Rio Hondo League meet was held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Hahamongna Watershed Park. South Pasadena’s cross country won a sweeping victory, placing first in all five divisions. 

From the varsity girls’ team, senior Abigail Errington won the race with a time of 18:08. Senior Saidbh Byrne came in third with a time of 18:39. Senior Sofia Humphrey came in fourth with a time of 19:03. Senior Maya Lee came in fifth with a time of 19:37. Seniors Chloe Koo and Amelie Geoffron and juniors Rose Vandevelde and Amada Cortes finished top 10 in the division. Overall, the varsity girls set a school team record time of 95:11.

From the varsity boys’ team, senior Noah Aldana won the race with a time of 16:16. Junior Dylan Shugg came in third with a time of 16:30. Sophomore Michael Scarince came in fourth with a time of 16:31.4, and senior Adam Ruiz followed closely in fifth with a time of 16:31.5. Senior Ethan Kung and junior Kai Tilley finished in top 10 in the division. The varsity boys also set a school team record time of 82:25.
