The boys’ varsity soccer team fell to the La Cañada Spartans on Wednesday, January 20 on the road by a score of 3-1. The team now stands at 2-1 in Rio Hondo League play and 4-5-1 overall.

The first half left the Tigers in a whole immediately as La Cañada took the lead and made the score 1-0. The Spartans took advantage of a through pass to the forward and shot it past the goalie. The Tigers would eventually even up the score when junior midfielder Max Amido threw in the ball to senior striker James Tulin, who headed the ball in to make the score 1-1. The half would conclude in a 1-1 matchup.

The second half proved to be the Tigers’ downfall as La Cañada would gain a definite lead. The Spartans would score two more goals to make the final score 3-1. Throughout this half however, senior defender Ian Geiberger led the Tiger back line with many solid stops and foils of La Cañada runs.

“It was a tough for us, especially because they often played dirty,” junior Mathew Kramsch said, “We will hope to overcome this obstacle and beat them when we play them again.”

The team travel to Temple City on Friday, January 20 with the hopes of improving the Tigers’ record to 2-2 in Rio Hondo League play and 4-6-1 overall.
