Badminton slides past Redlands 12-9 in home opener

Badminton took on Redlands, a high school almost an hour east of South Pasadena, in their first home game of the season. 


In Mixed Doubles, the Tigers won three of their four matchups. Seniors Anson Fong and Kiana Lee swept their first match with wide margins, 21-13 and 21-14. Lee and junior Wings Zhang both won one and lost one of their Girls Singles matches. All Girls Singles games were completed in two sets.

Meanwhile, junior Kyle Zhan won both of his Boys Singles matches in two sets. Freshman Harry Ao battled hard in the third tiebreaker set of his second match, but he eventually fell 29-27 in the set and 2-1 in the match. Matches are composed of a best-of-three sets and sets are played to 21 win-by-two. 

South Pasadena won one of their four Girls Doubles matches, played by senior Eva Wu and sophomore Batia Lou in a third set deuce. The Tigers took three of their four Boys Doubles games, overall summing to a 12-9 Tiger win. 

JV also dominated their matches, beating Redlands JV 10-1 overall. Badminton will face San Gabriel away on Monday, March 17.
