ASB held its annual homecoming assembly on Friday, Oct. 20th. The assembly was held in the Anderson Auditorium to commence this year’s homecoming dance.

The SPHS band played “Eye of the Tiger” as students filed into the auditorium. Senior  Commissioner of Assemblies Noble Jones and junior Commissioner of Finance Natasha Rey kicked off the assembly with a short skit. Jones then led the school-wide roll call, followed by senior Ellie Nakamura’s performance of the national anthem.

A quick video recapped homecoming spirit week, which was followed by a performance from advanced hip-hop. Next, Jones led the class competitions with two students from each grade. The competition pitted each grade against each other in a race to wrap a participating student in a roll of toilet paper.

“I’m super relieved that the class competition went very well in both assemblies as those have not been my strength, but this means I’m learning,” Jones said.

A video in the style of “Hot Ones,” produced by senior ASB videographer Samantha Shiroishi, introduced the 2023 homecoming court. Part one of the video featured the three underclassmen of the royal court: freshman Leighton Kwok, sophomore Jason Tsogtgerel, and junior Omar Soufi.

“This assembly was very different from others because of the homecoming court segment,” Jones said. “We had to figure out how to introduce each court member in a fun video format.”

Following performances by junior varsity and varsity song, Drama Club president senior Milla Sanchez-Regalado and vice president senior Sophia Swallow introduced this year’s fall play, Trap, which will have shows on Nov. 3, Nov. 4, Nov. 10, Nov. 11, and Nov. 12.

After performances by JV and varsity Flags, JV and varsity Yell, the second part of the homecoming court video was shown. It featured the three seniors of the royal court: Lillian Sherman, Colin Wong, and Olivia Alfonso.

The court was then escorted through the rows of the auditorium by the seniors of PEP. A final video advertised the homecoming picnic later that afternoon. The assembly concluded with the alma mater and students returned to classes before attending the picnic.
