ASB continued two decades of SPHS tradition with its second blood drive of the school year, which took place on Thursday, Feb. 20 in the SPHS gym. ASB posted sign ups for the drive two weeks prior, and student donors received a t-shirt, three hours of community service, and a ten dollar gift card to Amazon or In-N-Out.

ASB encountered the challenge of encouraging participation as many students were reluctant to donate early on in the day. This brief stagnation in activity left the nurses with little to do in the morning, but soon came to a close as more students flowed in as the day progressed.

The event’s preparation began at the start of the second semester, but the activity proposal was sent out towards the end of the summer. ASB worked on sign ups and spreading news of the blood drive, while the hospital nurses carried out the blood donating process.

“[The blood drive] was to help get more people to donate blood, it’s super important that hospitals and medical centers have blood that they can give to people,” ASB Commissioner of School and Community Sienna Drake said. “[It is also] a great opportunity for people to get involved with their community and do their part.”
