ASB hosted the yearly Powerpuff Assembly on Friday, Feb. 27 in the main gym after fourth period to boost school spirit for the Powerpuff Game.
The SPHS band, positioned near the gym entrance, warmly invited students into the gym with lively tunes as people filed in.
Senior Commissioner of Assemblies Baron Shroff and senior Commissioner General Adelaide Bertolina kicked off the assembly with class roll call.
The national anthem was sung by duet by junior Kiana Caniga and senior Cinbie Chang. Next, the juniors and seniors competed in a competitive game of tug of war, which the seniors won. After the freshmen beat the sophomores, they were defeated by the seniors.

“[Tug of war] was fun and I’m glad I was chosen for it. We knew we were going to lose [to the seniors] though,” freshman Berit Beebe Read said.
Varsity song and JV song consecutively performed to a remix of pop songs following the games.
Shroff then started the next competition, a football throwing competition between members of the junior and senior players on the Powerpuff teams. Both pairs of girls had a football and had to throw and catch it successfully before taking a step backwards and continuing. The first team to drop the ball would have to restart at the starting position. After the juniors were accused of a false start at the beginning and the seniors won, JV and varsity flags performed.
The junior and senior running backs had to successfully run a play before each other for the final competition. The race involved an agility ladder and blocks arranged on the floor. The seniors won after another supposed false start by the juniors.
Senior Commissioner of Assemblies Trey Freking conducted a quiz for juniors and seniors of the Powerpuff teams after the SPHS dance team performed. Freking alternated asking the football-related questions, and at the end, both teams made intimidating comments to prepare for the game.
JV and varsity yell had an upbeat performance with flips and entertaining choreography. After them, the final performance was hip-hop.
“I think the experience was outstanding compared to the other assemblies,” freshman Oscar Rodriguez said.
The assembly concluded with the alma mater and a reminder for students of all grade levels to support the junior and senior teams at the Powerpuff Game later that night at 7 p.m. at the football field.
