On Friday, Oct. 2, SPHS ASB held its annual Color Day assembly to celebrate the school’s largest spirit day, featuring the school colors: black, orange, and white. Performances came from the band, dance teams, flag, pep, and color guard.
The SPHS marching band welcomed students as they piled into the gym. The assembly started with junior Denis Blekhman, the commissioner of assemblies, jumping out of a box and switching to his heels, before everyone stood up to sing the Star Spangled Banner.
Dance then performed a remix of Blinding Lights by The Weeknd, Sports car by Tate McRae, and JOYRIDE. by Kesha.
Right after the performance, the first competition of the assembly took place, which was a tug of war contest announced by junior Dylan Barnes, the commissioner of games. Class representatives came down from each section to participate. The final matchup of students was juniors versus seniors, with the juniors winning the competition.
After the first competition of the assembly, JV and varsity flags performed to the songs 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and Midnight Sun by Zara Larsson. Senior Commissioner of Spirit Emi DeFelice announced the class winner for the Color Day poster, which was the junior class.
Next, class representatives participated in a mattress sliding competition where the seniors won. Junior Health and Wellness officer Ruby Foudy, and senior Environmental Sustainability officer Lorcan Swift announced the costume competition winners. Some of the titles of costumes that won for the students this year were air ballers, Ninjago, Dr. Seuss, Chainsaw Man, Pride and Prejudice, and Grace and Rocky from Project Hail Mary. For the teachers’ department, the counselors, who dressed up as the ASB judges, won.
Then, the homecoming court nominees that won for each class were announced. The winners were, freshman Marisol Barba, sophomore Inah Chang, junior Isaac Wong, and seniors Abigail Kim, Batia Lou, and Tsutomu Vega.
The assembly ended with JV and varsity yell stunting to a remix of Von Dutch by Charli xcx, Opalite by Taylor Swift, and songs by Zara Larsson, Katseye, and other artists.
After the performance, all attendees sang the Alma Mater before piling out of the gym and flooding into the streets.
