SPHS hosted its annual Spaghetti Dinner Night in the main gym on Saturday, March 12. Spaghetti Dinner Night is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Instrumental Musical Department, with musicians from all the high school grades coming to perform.
Students were greeted with music played by students and the chattering of families when entering the gym.
The night started with Hymn of Acxiom, arranged by senior Hanson Chan, played by Chan, seniors Elliot Matlock, Jesse Li, Elizabeth Rosenberg, sophomores Lucia Lois, Justin Kim, and Jayden Kim, and ended with The Storm played by the Winter Line.
The spaghetti was catered by Charlie’s Trio, the cake was donated by Pavillions, and the coffee was from Starbucks. There was also salad, pizza, bread, lemonade, and water available.
Tables with gift baskets for the silent auction lined the North side of the gym. To participate, people could write however much money they would like to bid on sheets of paper in front of the item. Whoever bid the highest paid for that item and took it home. Some baskets included Trader Joe’s tote bags, an assortment of wines, shoes, and jewelry.
People could also participate in the 50-50 raffle, where they could buy tickets for $1, and around halfway through the concert, a drawing was conducted. The person whose ticket was drawn received half of the money, while the other half went to the music program.
“It’s been challenging to get donations and sponsorships because the economy is not great right now,” President of the Music Boosters and Spaghetti Dinner Night Chairperson Kendall Swenson said. “[But] there’ve been lots of volunteers, and everybody was here to help today to set it up and feed everybody, so it’s going very well.”
