Managing Editors

Senior Sonya Shimpock (she/her) is thrilled to return for her third and final year on Tiger as Editor-in-Chief. When she’s not contemplating dropping out of high school to avoid college apps (yikes) and/or her future (double yikes), you can likely find her bothering her fellow managing editors or scavenging Trader Joe’s Takis from the Copa cabinet.

As senior Emiko Essmiller (she/her) says, “new year, new me(ntal issues).” She’s so grateful to be spending her fourth year on Tiger as Online Managing Editor, and between doomscrolling on TikTok, crying over homework, or refusing to socialize, Emiko’s personal goal is to make her last year at SPHS as meaningful as possible.

Zoe Chen (she/her) is about as excited for her junior year as a kid is about getting a tooth pulled, which is to say, not at all. Be as that may, she’s quite thrilled to spend her third year on staff as Print Managing Editor. If you ask Zoe, tomato frogs are extremely underrated creatures, as are turkey vultures, not that you asked.
Section Editors

Junior Claire Mao (she/her) is delighted to return for her third year on Tiger as News Editor and once again work with new and returning staff through chaotic but rewarding monthly issues. In her free time, Mao likes to eat snacks, draw lotuses, collect boxes and travel to many new places around the world.

Junior Rafa Estolano-Sridharan (he/him) is excited to be returning for his second year on Tiger as Opinion Editor (Rafa is not looking forward to cringing at this bio when he has to write a new one next year). In his free time, Rafa likes making pottery, procrastinating, or complaining about the lack of snacks in the Tiger room.

Sophomore Ruby Foudy (she/her) is so excited to join Tiger for her second year as Feature Editor. She looks forward to coercing new writers into doing her bidding (all jokes!) and stealing food from Copa. She likes to procrastinate and cry over The Lego Batman Movie (the best Batman movie, argue with the wall).

Sophomore Gavin Bartolome (he/him) is thrilled to be a part of Tiger for his second year, now as Sports Editor. In his free time, he enjoys morning runs, modifying old tech, and playing badminton. As he’s writing this, Bartolome could go for a boba or a nice bowl of curry rice.
Design Editors

Senior Olivia Chin (she/her) is excited to return for her third and final year on Tiger as Co-Design Editor. Outside of the classroom, her favorite hobbies include painting with watercolors, discovering new hiking trails across LA, listening to music, and attempting to teach her stubborn orange cat tricks.

Sophomore Lanah Kim (she/her) is looking forward to returning for her second year of Tiger as a Co-Design Editor. When she isn’t browsing photographs by the James Webb Space Telescope, you might find her playing various songs on her instruments or scouring for concert tickets she probably won’t be able to attend.
Photography Editor

Senior Helena Easterby (she/her) is indubitably feeling supercalifragilisticexpialidocious to return to Tiger for her final year. If she isn’t focusing on her thousands of assignments she has due, she can be found playing Brawl Stars in the storage closet. And if she’s not doing that, she’s probably playing with her dog.
Copy Editors

Senior Solana Singer (she/her) is excited to return to Tiger for her third year as a Copy Editor and page designer. When she’s not acting deaf with one AirPod in, you can find her chugging a chai latte after a hike or driving around LA blasting bass-boosted Lucki.

Sophomore Owen Hou (he/him) is looking forward to rejoining Tiger as a Copy Editor for another spectacular year. In his free time, he enjoys messing with his little brother, playing badminton, and trying to learn how to draw.
Staff Writers

Freshman Uma Chakraborty (she/her) is excited to start her first year as a staff writer on Tiger. When she’s not procrastinating on her piano practice, you can find her scouring the fridge for food or reading a book (especially when she has homework to do). She can’t wait to meet new people and improve her writing!

Senior Evelyn Diaz (she/her) is looking forward to returning to Tiger for her second year as a staff writer. When she is not having her second cup of iced matcha or enjoying a fresh plate of sushi, you can catch her at the softball field.

Senior Miriam Elghefari (she/her) is excited for her first year on Tiger as a staff writer. She is looking forward to getting through senior year as fast as possible. When she’s not obsessing over anything Trader Joe’s related, she enjoys doomscrolling on TikTok and telling people she’s so close to getting her license (lie).

Freshman Julia Gildersleeve (she/her) is excited to begin her first year on Tiger as a staff writer. When she’s not diving for volleyballs or tanning at the beach, you can find her shopping or binge-watching Modern Family (no spoilers, she’s on season three). She’s looking forward to developing her writing and meeting new people!

Freshman Harriet Godson (she/her) is extremely excited to begin writing as a staff writer. She can usually be found out and about South Pasadena, whether she’s on a run, playing soccer, or grabbing Starbucks with friends. She’s ecstatic to write her first article and get to know the Tiger staff.

Junior Leighton Kwok (she/her) is ecstatic to be joining Tiger for the first time as a writer. When she’s not clacking at her computer and drinking her matcha latte, you can find her at a concert, yapping with her friends, or reading a book. She is super excited to get to know everyone over this school year and can’t wait to write some fun articles.

Freshman Anna McDonnell (she/her) is thrilled to be a staff writer this year on Tiger. When not in track, cross country, or the weight room, you can find her obsessing over cute (and sometimes annoying) romcoms and walking around town with her friends.

Freshman Maxine Messineo (she/her) is looking forward to her first year on Tiger as a staff writer. When she’s not watching a good horror movie, you can find her blasting music through her headphones while going for a walk through town.

Freshman Ellie Song (she/her) is ecstatic to contribute as a staff writer on Tiger. When not walking around town with her friends, you can find her peppering and digging down balls by the nearest volleyball court. She is so excited to experience high school and meet new friends!

Freshman Khloe Yuen (she/her) is excited to start her first year as a staff writer for Tiger. When she’s not practicing at the Almansor driving range or putting on the terrible practice green, you can find her shopping at the Santa Anita Mall or drinking boba (you’ll never see her without boba). Khloe is eager to start her high school journey and meet new people.
Staff Photographers

Junior Lucinda Ernst (she/her) is so excited for her very first year on Tiger. Joining as a staff photographer, she looks forward to clipping as many people as possible, but in an aesthetic way, so it’s fine. When she’s not wandering about campus with her camera, you can find her in the SAC room doing ASB business, on the train, or binging on Trader Joe’s snacks. Lots of love, SPHS!

Senior Sebastian Gutierrez (he/him) is excited to join Tiger as a staff photographer. When he’s not on a side quest (or maybe when he is) you’ll likely find him wandering the streets of LA or the Farmers Market searching for the next moment to capture.

Junior Mac Shropshire (he/him) is so happy to be on staff for his second year as a photographer. When he’s not getting horrible tans playing water polo, you’ll see him acting like the main character asking you for a photo. Mac is excited to use Tiger and photography as an excuse for the copious amounts of schoolwork junior year gives him.
Staff Illustrators

Senior Kristel Houng (she/her) is excited to start her first year on Tiger as an illustrator. When she’s not stuck to her graphics tablet (and most likely developing a severe case of carpal tunnel), you can find her either coaxing a stubborn kitty cat out to play or bashing her head against After Effect’s tedious rendering software.

Senior Diana Lopez is ecstatic to be on Tiger for a second year as a staff illustrator. She loves anything creative, whether it be crocheting, drawing, or painting. She’s happy to use her artistic talents her last year of high school for Tiger.

Senior Jayden Zumba is excited to join Tiger as an illustrator. She loves being creative and doing art, and you’ll find her listening to music, sketching, or snacking on Hot Cheetos. She is ready to start collabing and making memorable memories with everyone on Tiger.
Staff Page Designers

Freshman Gabby Ferri (she/her) is so excited to be joining Tiger as a page designer this year. When she isn’t hanging out with friends or drinking a Starbucks iced mocha, she’s at dance class or getting the gossip from preschool while babysitting. She’s looking forward to meeting new people and having a great experience on the Tiger staff.

Sophomore Paisley Park (she/her) is excited to join Tiger as a page designer. She loves architecture and graphic design, and will always be drinking matchas, sleeping in, and listening to Laufey. She is excited for a great year on Tiger!

Senior Alison Schrader (she/her) is elated to be joining Tiger in her senior year as a page designer. She loves reading, animals, and long walks by the beach. If she’s not procrastinating she can be found goofing off in the band room.
Videographer

Freshman Theo Thompson (he/him) is really looking forward to starting his first year as the videographer on Tiger. When he’s not listening to music or mountain biking with his friends, you can find him making beats or taking pictures. He is so excited to start on Tiger this year!
Social Media Specialist

Sophomore Isabella Jonasen (she/her) is looking forward to another year on Tiger Newspaper. When she’s not complaining about the lack of food in the Copa cabinet, she’s writing about the importance of lyricism. With loving the process of writing all forms of art, she is more than thrilled to be writing for Tiger her sophomore year of high school.
Business & Ads Manager

Sophomore Pascale Williams (she/her) is looking forward to starting her first year on Tiger as a Business and Ads Manager. When she’s not downing chai lattes at Jones Coffee, you’ll definitely find her at the movies with a blanket and Red Vines in hand (eagerly waiting to write her Letterboxd review shortly after). She’s excited to get to know more people on Tiger!
Columnist

In his fourth year on Tiger, senior Ethan Kwak (he/him) is very excited for his role as a columnist. In his free time, Ethan can be found at choir rehearsal, writing poems with his friends, or to his ankles in dust at a local used bookstore. In his column, “Everything, by Ethan,” he hopes to leave no stone unturned by exploring the intersection of arts advocacy, history, and literature.
