Winter Guard won fourth place at season finals at the University of California, Irvine on April 26.

The Winter Guard Association of Southern California finals concludes the year’s events for SPHS Winter Guard. The team earned 82.7 points, two points behind champion South East High School from South Gate. In SPHS’s past five matches, the team earned second three times, and first two times in their division.

Winter Guard’s five-minute performance utilized six specialty dancers and elaborate props including 10-feet-tall clouds and a 100-foot rainbow. Their show focused on rain, as each dancer represented a drop.

“Despite facing a few challenges that presented themselves at the beginning of the season, I am so happy that our show was successful,” senior captain Daniela Rayon said. “Our job as performers is to convey some type of message to our audience, and I’m glad that we were able to do that.”

While Winter Guard’s 2015 season is over, the team looks forward to building on their strong showings next year, and hopes that their competition triumph buoys their recruitment effort for next season.
