English teacher Mrs. Kimberly Kadletz was announced as the South Pasadena Unified School District’s new Coordinator of Testing & Categorical Programs on Friday, February 6. Kadletz will no longer teach Honors World Literature effective February 23, but will continue to teach AP English Language online for the rest of the semester.

Kadletz’s position will involve overseeing all testing throughout the school district, as part of the district’s Office of Instructional Services. Kadletz was selected for this position because of her experience as a teacher in SPUSD since 2003 and a former teacher-on-special-assignment she previously held in the Office of Instructional Services.

“This is really going to be an advantage for us,” Assistant Principal of Instruction Ginger Merritt said. “Mrs. Kadletz has the students’ best interests at heart, and her teaching experiences are going to translate well when overseeing testing programs.”

The future of the online AP English Language course beyond this year remains in question. With regards to Kadletz’s other classes, administration is searching for an English instructor to teach World Literature for the rest of the year.

“The goal is to keep the course [AP Lang],” Merritt said. “However, it’s such a difficult teaching format that we can’t necessarily assign a teacher to the online class. I am hopeful that we will have other teachers who will say, ‘Oh yeah, I’d like to try that.’”

Kadletz is expected to begin her new position by February 23, but the date is subject to change based on when a new teacher can be found.

“[February 23] is the district’s goal,” Merritt said. “We are fairly confident there will be a replacement found before she leaves.”
