The badminton team held its third match of the season against the San Marino High School Titans on Tuesday, March 10.

The Tigers were defeated again, winning only one of their 16 games against the Titans’ experienced squad. Sophomore Michael Wu earned a win in boys’ singles, finishing 21-19 and 21-15. Due to the injuries of freshman Jeffrey Liu and sophomore Mark Wang, sophomores Coby Pineda and Max Lockridge were substituted in for their boys’ doubles match. Pineda and Lockridge fought well, winning the second game and forcing the Titans to play a third. The pair lost the third game 14-21.

“San Marino’s team was really well prepared and cohesive.” junior Nolan Pokpongkiat said. “They had a good attacking position so we were put on the defensive for most of the game.”

Despite the loss, Wu remained optimistic about the Tiger’s performance.

“The average level of their team is higher than the level of our team,” Wu said. “But within the time period of two weeks, we have improved from a beginner team to an intermediate team.”

The team will play San Marino again next Tuesday, March 17, at the San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club.
