Girls tennis squeezed past the Glendora Tartans 10-8 Tuesday, Sept. 17, moving up to 3-4 in the preseason.
Each singles player was unable to defeat the Tartans’ talented singles one, but won every other set. Singles one, junior captain Carissa Park, crushed the next two opponents, 6-0 and 6-1. Singles two, junior Olivia Reed, won the last two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-0 and singles three, freshman Kyra Campbell, coasted to 6-0 and 6-3 wins.
Doubles team one, senior Teryn Kum and junior Skylar Cornforth, wiped up the court with winning scores of 6-1, 6-0, and 6-1. Doubles two, Junior Kimberly Hsueh and sophomore Stephanie Li, unfortunately, could only pull through with one victory. They lost their first and last set 6-2 each and won their second 6-1. Doubles team three, juniors Meagan Chang and Sienna Chen, was unable to lock down any of the sets, losing 6-2, 6-4, and 6-3.
“Everyone did really well and we pushed hard when we were down. We eventually came out with a win because of good communication and our ability to read the opponents,” sophomore Ava Feldman said.
The girls tennis team hopes to continue its success on Thursday, Sept. 19 against Baldwin Park High School.
