The girls’ varsity tennis team endured a frustrating loss Thursday afternoon to rivals San Marino High School. The Tigers were able to win four doubles matches but only two singles, as they lost the overall match 6-12.

“San Marino is a very formidable team,” senior captain Jennifer Wu said. “They have experienced tournament players and strong doubles teams.”

The Tigers’ strongest performance came from the doubles team of juniors Symona Stans and Maddie Lizzul. They won two of their three sets, each with a score of 6-2. The Tigers were able to claim two other doubles wins, one from senior Katherine Shinno and sophomore Donna Kim, and the other from senior Karen Hsueh and sophomore Jessica Chang.

However, the Tigers were unable to stop the San Marino singles players, as they lost seven of the nine singles matches. Their two victories came from sophomore Ashley Huang and freshman Molly Round.

The team’s next match will be next Tuesday at Monrovia High school, where they will hope to improve their league record to 2-1.
