Girls golf: A dynasty in full swing

After earning its consecutive 9th league championships last season, the girls’ golf team is striving to preserve its undefeated streak and dominion over the region.

Last season, the team claimed victory in the Montview league with an overall record of 9-1, losing only one game due to a two stroke penalty. Then-junior Bethany Chen broke the school’s record for lowest score during the league, shooting a score of 31. Together, the team concluded with a score of 216-232 against Rowland in the Montview league finals. The Tigers were able to advance to the first round of CIF, while utilizing their strong work ethic and stellar team chemistry.

This year, the team is seekings to surpass last year’s standing in CIF and the Montview league. It will, however, be challenged by to the loss of 3 solid starters: Caitlyn Yanashita, Clara Wong, and Emily Swanson. Although these individuals were valuable players, the golf team is recovering rapidly with the support of many other experienced players.

“Though we may have lost a couple of starters,” senior captain Chen said “our girls have another year of hard work under their belts. I have faith in us!”

This year’s team will be led by senior captains Chen and Nicole Srisutham. As leaders of the team, the duo plans to focus on mental toughness and perseverance.

The team’s first game of the season will be on Tuesday, August 29 against La Salle at the Almansor Golf Course.
