Baseball falls to San Marino on Senior Night

Varsity baseball fell in its last home game of the season, 10-4, to the San Marino Titans on Tuesday, May 9. Despite many of the seniors playing their last home game of high school, the Titans stole the show with an early lead and never looked back against the Tigers.

San Marino opened up in the first inning after posting base runners at first and third. Both of those players would return home after a triple by the third batter. Poor fielding by the Tigers allowed San Marino score a third run before back to back pop ups ended the inning. Riding high off of their first inning performance, the Titans tallied up a fourth run to make the score 4-0 in the second inning.

Offensively South Pas had little effect on San Marino, with most hits either grounding out or popping up for an easy out. The Titans continued to chalk up runs in the fifth inning with the score reaching 10-0 before South Pas finally put a stop to the San Marino onslaught.

South Pas was able to answer back after positioning senior Tucker Judkins on first base off of catcher’s interference. Junior Isaac Luevano followed after to put Judkins at third and set himself up at first. Senior Cole Page brought Judkins home for the Tigers’ first run of the game. Senior Inesh Rathi fed off of Page’s momentum and reached first base while allowing Luevano to score. Senior Kyle Ninomiya tallied up an RBI for himself to bring Page home for a run. Junior Matt Walker provided the Tigers fourth and final run of the day after bringing home Rathi for a score of 10-4 in the fifth inning.

From here both team’s would suffer an offensive drought with the Titans capping off the day with a 10-4 victory.

The team looks towards its last game of the season against Monrovia High School, away on Thursday, May 11. The Wildcats are the only team the Tigers have beaten this season after South Pas shut out the team 3-0 back in March.
