The girls’ varsity soccer team fell 3-0 at San Marino on Friday, January 29. The Tigers struggled to keep up with the physical San Marino in the two squads’ second matchup. Losing to the Titans brought the Tigers’ Rio Hondo League record down to 3-3.
South Pasadena conceded all three goals in the first half. The initial mark on the scoreboard came near the beginning of the period. A San Marino player took a corner kick which her teammate then knocked the ball into the goal with her head. The second Titan goal happened in a similar fashion, with one of the San Marino strikes taking a penalty kick off South Pas tackle inside the box and another goal finished as a header from a cross. The Tigers struggled offensively throughout the half, and as a result, faced many attacks by the Titans. The final goal that they allowed also came in the form of a header, after an accurate, long-range throw-in by a San Marino player. South Pasadena struggled in its first period against its physical opponents and the many penalties called against its players.
The Tigers entered the second half with a new sense of determination, but struggled to execute well enough to yield any goals. South Pasadena persevered regardless of the daunting deficit, refusing to give in until the final whistle blew.
The team hopes to get its record back on track in its next game against Blair High School at home on Wednesday, February 3.
