Playoffs have officially begun for the South Pasadena High School girls’ golf team. The preliminary match started today at the Marshall Canyon Golf Course against all of the opposing High Schools in the Montview League, including Azusa, Gabrielino, Alhambra, and Webb. The Tigers sent their top six players, with senior captains Katie Rosenberg, and Amy Chong, and sophomores Emily Swanson and Caitlyn Yamashita advancing to the league finals.
Rosenberg led the team with a low shot of 36. Chong and Yamashita followed close behind, both shooting a 41. Swanson rounded off South Pasadena’s qualifiers by just making the cut with a 50. Senior captain Alyssa Carlos and junior Christine Abbott barely missed the mark, shooting 54 and 52, respectively. The golfers had to score a 50 or less to advance onto Thursday’s final match.
“The course was rather difficult and the putts were hard to read. I’m not speaking for myself but for the girls that played today,” Chong said. “Every shot I took, I stayed focus on the shot and didn’t allow any distractions get to me. If the plan was to get par, and it didn’t go the way as planned, I stopped myself and told myself to move on. ”
Today a total of 12 players from all the schools qualified and will move on to finals, which will take place on Thursday at the Marshall Canyon Golf Course. The players will play 18 holes and their scores will be added up with today’s scores. The top four scores will advance to the CIF individual’s match on Monday, October 27 at the River Ridge in Oxnard.
