The varsity softball team concluded its three-game series against Monrovia with an 11-0 loss on the road on Friday, April 17. The game marked the Tigers’ third defeat at the hands of the Wildcats this season, who previously topped SPHS 3-0 and 15-4.
Sophomore Adrianna Ramirez started on the mound for the Tigers, but the Wildcats’ experienced hitters put the South Pas defense to work. Relief pitcher and junior Alissa Gentry struggled similarly to suppress the home team’s bats. The opposition seized on six errors by South Pas to score, putting Monrovia up 11 runs by the bottom of the fifth.
Offensively, the opposing pitcher silenced SPHS’s offense with perfect throwing until the fourth inning, when senior Cassie Baca struck a single for the Tigers’ only hit of the game. An opportunity in the fifth inning with two runners on base fell through as the mercy rule kicked in to end the game early.
The Tigers face rival San Marino on Tuesday, April 21 at the Titans’ home field, with another game at SPHS on Friday, April 24.
“This game was a good learning experience for everyone and as a team,” Baca said. “I think we are ready to face San Marino next week and are well prepared to chase after those two wins.”
