As the boys baseball team boarded the bus, they left behind a frustrating 5-2 loss to Alhambra High School last Saturday. This game also concludes their Arcadia Elks Tournament, and currently hold a 4-2 record.
The Tigers were able to hold Alhambra to a stand still in the first inning. However, the Moors then went up 4-0 against the Tigers in the second. With the Moors in the lead, South Pas wasn’t able to mount any offense against Alhambra’s momentum and were hampered by poor hitting in the first few innings.
“There were a lot of errors in the second inning, and the other team managed to hit our pitching well enough,” Junior Matthew Shults said. “Once we found out and adjusted to what they were capable of, the other team stopped hitting well and the game leveled out.”
Although South Pas was down, the Tigers were able to hold the line on defense against Alhambra, but still couldn’t convert any runs on offense.
Desperate to get back in the game, senior Brandon Aguirre managed two RBIs to get home teammates Brandon Louie and Matthew Park in the sixth inning. Although the Aguirre got the team on its feet, South Pas couldn’t pull off a comeback. Alhambra scored again in the sixth taking a 5-2 victory from the Tigers.
“Every team needs to feel some loss in order to get better overall as a group,” Shults added. “The Rio Hondo League provides promise for our team by having teams both playable and challenging enough for a good fight.”
The team hopes to jump back from their preseason record of 4-2 and start fresh in Rio Hondo League against Monrovia, away on March 20 at 3:30 p.m.
