Swimming faces off against Mark Keppel in home meet

The SPHS swim team faced off against Mark Keppel at home on March 6, exceeding expectations against a formidable opponent. Varsity girls’ pulled through with an 88-81 victory in its last events, while varsity boys’ suffered a crushing 99-71 defeat.

The meet kicked off with the 200-meter medley relay, with both teams gaining 1st place victories. Senior Alexa Moe nearly took first in the 200-meter freestyle, but was narrowly passed on the last lap by Mark Keppel. Freshman Allysan Tse continued the girls’ lead with her 1st place time of 2:14 in the 200-meter individual medley.

Despite being behind in the early events, senior Joshua Lee secured 1st place in the 50-meter free. Junior Tim Chiu dominated in the 100-meter butterfly, while freshman Sophia Davidson and Moe both lapped the Mark Keppel girls in the 500-meter freestyle.

The 100-meter backstroke saw further pushes for victory by the varsity girls’ with the Tigers narrowly taking 1st and 2nd place. However, the boys’ subsequent 2nd and 3rd place were not enough to even the score by the last event.

The varsity teams will open their league season on March 14th in their home meet against Temple City.
