The Peer Mediators are hosting their second TEDx Salon Saturday, December 9 in the SPHS library. Student speakers junior Amanda Estevez and seniors Ben Elbaum and Archer Willems will speak at the event, which is entitled “Connection and Communication.”

“Connection and Communication’ is broadening the meaning from our last salon [“Expecting and Accepting”],” senior TEDx committee member Candace Louie said. “This salon we are starting to talk about the relationships we have, how we communicate in them, and how we build empathy.”

Experiences from student speakers as well as speakers who have performed pre-recorded speeches from other TED events will inform audience discussion. Along with speaking, students will also be facilitating conversations. The TEDx Salon, which will take place from 1:00 p.m.-3:00p.m., is focused on small group discussion.

After the audience watches a student speech or pre-recorded talk, it will have time to discuss and debrief the themes and lessons from the speech.

Last year, the Mediators’ TEDx Salon, “Expecting and Accepting,” featured student speakers seniors Josh Ng and Rachelle Jin and junior Kenny Sholtz.

“TEDx provided me a platform in which I could not only share my formative experiences with others, but also raise awareness for frequently overlooked societal issues,” Jin said.

Tickets for “Connection and Communication” are on sale now at the Student Bank for $3 for students and $5 for adults.
