The SPHS Alumni Association (SPHSAA) is continuing to offer its annual scholarships for high school seniors who hope to pursue any higher education — including community college, four-year colleges or universities, and vocational schools. In light of SPUSD closing all schools until May 5, the association has also extended the its application deadline to Apr. 8.

SPHSAA has awarded graduating seniors more than $633,000 since its establishment in 1982 and has continued the tradition each year, giving out 32,000 to 20 students last spring. Scholarships will be awarded based on five criteria: financial need, scholastic record, extracurricular activities, community service, and work experience.

Michael Thurman, SPHSAA President, encourages all seniors to submit their application under these circumstances.

“We will review all of the scholarship applications we receive and award scholarships to Graduating Tigers this spring, just like we do every year, regardless of how much longer the District closure lasts,” Thurman said in a press release.

Applications can be found under the counseling tab at sphstigers.org and will be due Wednesday, Apr. 8 via email.
