Softball loses heartbreaker against La Cañada, 1-0

The softball team fell to La Cañada in a close away game on Tuesday, April 28. The 1-0 loss puts the Tigers down 0-2 in this season’s series with the Spartans and  2-7 in the Rio Hondo League.

The game saw one of the Tigers’ closest performances this season. The scoreboard remained at 0-0 for the majority of the afternoon, with both sides consistently suppressing the offensive efforts of the other. However, La Cañada brought home a runner on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh to edge out South Pas by a single run.

“We were so close and both teams wanted it just as bad, but they ended up with a lucky hit in the end,” sophomore first baseman Emily Swanson said.

Tuesday’s game stands in sharp contrast to the Tigers’ first loss against the Spartans this season more than a month ago. The Spartans gained an early 7-0 lead by the bottom of the second inning to demoralize the home team, culminating in a 9-0 defeat for South Pas.

The team concludes its three-game series with the Spartans on Friday, May 1, playing once again at the Tigers’ home diamond.
