The girls’ varsity tennis team showcased a strong doubles performance in a 14-4 victory over the Marshall Fundamental Eagles on Thursday, September 14. The team’s overall record now stands at 4-0 with two games left in the preseason.

The team experimented with a new lineup going into its game against the Eagles. Junior Rachel Park and freshman Lauren Galles joined junior Deanna Als as singles players. This was Park’s and Galles’ first time playing singles this year, as they typically serve on the doubles team. Als and Park took two games each with scores of 6-2 and 6-1, alongside 6-4 and 6-2, respectively. Galles also won one game, adding a point to the Tiger’s score with the 6-2 win.

The doubles players won all nine of their matches against the Eagles. Junior Shannon Huang and freshman Carissa Park took their talents to the doubles team, after proving themselves as strong singles competitors throughout the preseason. The duo swept their opponents 6-0 in all three of their matches. The revised roster also included a new doubles pairing of sophomore Teryn Kum and freshman Skylar Cornforth, who were victorious in their matches with scores of 6-2, 6-2, and 6-3.

The team will continue its preseason at home against Maranatha High School on Friday, September 15. The last preseason match will be an away game against Alhambra on Monday, September 18.
