The South Pasadena girls tennis team stumbled in the Rio Hondo League Preliminaries on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Live Oak Park. Junior captain Carissa Park was the only player who won both of the games required to move on to the next round on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Park dominated the courts, sweeping her opponents 8-0 from Temple City and Monrovia in blowout fashion.

Meanwhile, singles player junior Olivia Reed and the doubles duo, senior Teryn Kum and junior Skylar Cornforth, were both quick to defeat their opponents, but fell short in the second round.

“Despite most of our losses today, we had a great time at RHL [prelims],” Park said. “We played our best and found this the perfect time to bond with each other. I would hardly say today was a defeat, because we found a gain among our team: better chemistry. I’m glad we were able to experience this bonding for this teamwork will definitely give us an advantage at CIF.”

Park will represent South Pas in the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday, Oct. 31, at Live Oak Park.
