The girls’ golf team emerged victorious in their season opener against league rival La Cañada on Tuesday, September 11, prevailing by a score of 205-253. Solid play from each player allowed the Tigers to coast to a sixth consecutive win, remaining undefeated on the year.

Star freshman Lauren Calderon played in her typical dominant fashion, totaling only 35 strokes, one under par. Junior co-captain Victoria Tskvitichvili and freshman Maya Turun finished the nine hole course with ease, each scoring 39. Sophomore Katherine Anthony, with a score of 45, produced a sound performance. Junior co-captain Lindsey Biggar and freshman Audrey Biggar tallied 47 and 48 strokes, respectively.

Scoring under par in each of her last three matches, Calderon has dominated the opposition. However, her impressive scores do not solely stem from her abilities.

“The biggest thing that I believe helps me a lot in my game is my friend Katherine Anthony,” Calderon said. “She makes the rounds super fun and helps me stay positive.”

The rest of the team, especially Turun and Tskvitichvili, are also in excellent form. With an excess of low-scoring talent, the Tigers can still win games despite not playing to their full potential.

The Tigers will next face the Alhambra Moors on Thursday, September 13, on the Almansor Golf Course.
