Boys’ tennis was defeated in an away game against La Canada Flintridge on Tuesday, March 20, losing 15-3. The loss to La Canada, a Division I powerhouse, puts the Tiger’s overall record at 7-3, and league record at 0-1.

Singles one, sophomore Desmond Chan, was the only player to win a game. Chan won his first two games 6-2 and 6-0, and closed out his final game, concluding with a score of 7-6.

Chan, who had already won two sets prior to beginning his final game, started with the momentum in his favor and lead his opponent by one game throughout the first half of the set. However, during the middle of the game, with the set score at 3-2, Chan lost two of three consecutive points to approach shots while he recovered along the baseline, effectively eliminating his lead. After losing his serving game, he began trailing by a margin of one. Notwithstanding, Chan rebuilt his momentum and came back to win in an extremely close finish, ending in a score of 7-6.

In doubles, team three, consisting of junior Alex Betts and sophomore Evan Strittmatter, put up a valiant effort in an attempt to win against the Division I Spartans, but fell short 4-6. Singles three, senior Andrew Lee nearly reaped a win from La Canada but ultimately lost, scoring 3-6.

The team will play next in an away match against rival San Marino on Friday, March 23.
