Varsity baseball fell in its Tuesday home game against Temple City High School after being routed by the Rams in a final score of 6-0 on Tuesday, April 18. The Tigers now fall to last place in Rio Hondo League with an abysmal 1-5 league record.
After coming off of a 7-0 loss to the Spartans the week before, South Pas hoped to bounce back in league with a win over the Rams. Instead Temple City handed the Tigers one of their worst losses of the season.
In the opening inning, poor umpire calling coupled with an error by the Tigers allowed the Rams to chalk up a run as well as load the bases early on. With a single coming from the next batter, Temple City had established a 2-0 lead in the game.
South Pas tried to fire back on offense with a one-two punch from senior Kevin Park making it onto base as well as junior Matt Walker hitting a single. This amounted to nothing however as Park was tagged at third base, ending the inning.
Temple City continued to ride their 2-0 lead and tallied up additional runs when the Tigers committed multiple errors. This allowed the Rams to score two additional runs for a total of four in the second inning of play.
The Tigers seemed poised for a comeback in the bottom of the third inning after Park nearly hit a bomb to get on second base, with junior Edwin Espinal on third base. However, South Pas failed to capitalize on the change in momentum after the following batter was struck out.
The next four inning for the Tigers was filled with two more runs given up coupled with little to no offense fielded against Temple City for a dismal ending score of 6-0.
South Pas will face off against San Marino High School on the Titans home field next Friday, April 21.
