Students gathered at the Majestic Downtown Saturday, May 11 for the long-awaited 2019 “Great Gatsby” Prom. The location hosted a night of live music and dancing before crowning the junior and senior prom courts.

The prom’s choice location of the Majestic Downtown was inspired by Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, hosting decorative lights, crystal chandeliers, and a balcony overlooking the central dance floor. Tables were set up on the balconies and around the central dance floor for students to relax and eat.

Students were greeted to a fully-stocked candy bar and a bar serving assorted sodas, water, and lemonade. A flipbook photo booth was set up on the balcony for group photos. The student band Grand Haven also performed a set of classic covers such as “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone and “New Light” by John Mayer.

Prom court voting was also open to students as they entered the venue and results were announced halfway through the dance. Junior court winners Ines Yang and Hyun Kim joined senior court winners Grace Kim and Jack Sanders for a dance under the spotlight following the announcement.

Junior class president Joseph Lee and the other junior class officers had been planning and fundraising for the event for almost two years leading up to this, and were very pleased with the outcome of their hard work.

“I could not stop feeling happy throughout the night,” Lee said. “This truly was an amazing experience and something that I know we would work hard to do again.”
